The amount of protests throughout east Germany has increased over time and made tensions even higher for the people who lived in the region. Gorbachev informed the East German Communist Party that they would not be giving support by force. The government ended up resigning, allowing new communist party members to be put in charge, only to be taken out in a few weeks. The people of Berlin had torn down the wall themselves, and reunited with each other. The unification of Germany was shortly underway and Germany was one once more. This, however, did rise some fears out of people due to the fact that a unified Germany may, once again, upset the balance of power.
