The construction of this dam and the conservationist movements' support and opposition to this dam exposed the conservationist movements/ racial bias. Although supporters of the dam argued it was in the public interest, the interests of the Mono Lake Paiutes who lived in Yosemite and were directly impacted were never considered. This was another example of the continuation of ignoring the rights of Native Americans.
