Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri. A jury decided that Wilson would not be indicted. There were many protests as a result; some even set buildings on fire and looted several businesses. Eventually, the Justice Department called on Ferguson to overhaul its criminal justice system, saying that it was unconstitutional. This revealed the racial tensions in Missouri that still exist today. Below is a map of St. Louis County that shows that most of the communities surrounding Ferguson are primarily black.
