1 jan 1892 ano - Homestead Strike

Descrição:

The massive industrialization the U.S. underwent in the late 19th century was coupled with ongoing labor challenges to the countries largest industries. In 1892 steel prices were falling and Carnegie decided to replace some of his workers with machines. This provoked a strike with the Amalgamated Association of Iron and steel Workers. However, the strike failed after a failed assassination attempt plan manager Henry Clay Frick. Even though the strike failed, a precedent of striking and collective bargaining was set and and higher wages, shorter hours and improved working conditions for workers were achieved by unions during the 19th century. Also, these goals were set not just for the 19th century, but they set the agenda for the future unions of the 20th century.
