Japan entered the war attacking British American and Dutch targets in the pacific and Asia. Canada was the one contributing military units and personnel to the war against Japan. In the beginning of 1942 the government of Canada detained and disposed of over 90% of Japanese living in Canada and 21,000 people living in British Columbia their homes and businesses were sold by the government in order to pay for your detention. In 1942 the federal government issued an order to remove and detain people from any protective area in the country the order was broad enough to apply to anyone but they were specifically used to target Japanese Canadians along the west coast. In March first Japanese Canadians were taken from their homes 160 km inland and were sent to Hastings park in Vancouver more than 8,000 detainees were sent to Hastings park. Women and children were housed in livestock buildings and any property that was not able to be carried came under government custody. The camps where they were required to stay were overcrowded and poor. There was no electricity or running water. and those who resisted their internment were sent to prisons. furthermore in 1943 all property that had been under the government's protective custody was liquidated. Homes farms businesses and personal properties were all sold from which the government used to pay the cost of detaining Japanese Canadians
