The United Nations was the second iteration (and a much more successful one) of the League of Nations which followed WW1. Though the UN was not limited to West Europe, Western European nations are the largest governing bodies and 3 European nations (Britain, France, and Russia) and the US are the "P5 " on the central UN Security Council with China.
