U.S. servicemen, off-duty police officers and civilians fought Mexican teenagers who wore “Zoot Suits”. They ripped off and burned their “Zoot Suits”. The city police did virtually nothing to stop those attacking the Mexican teenagers, but arrested the teenagers when they attempted to fight back. After the riots, the city of Los Angeles passed a law prohibiting “Zoot Suits” from being worn
