The Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) mobilized popular resistance to racial inequality. CORE helped organize sit ins and demonstrations in segregated establishments. The organization won a highly publicized victory in Washington D.C by forcing a restaurant to serve them. CORE’s spirit would live on through the 50’s and inspire the Civil Rights Movement.
