Descrição:

-war guilt clause (clause 231), this established that Germany was responsible for causing ww1 which meant that the harsher terms of the treaty could be justified, they also justified the harsh terms of the treaty by using the example of the treaty of Brest-Litovsk when a 1/3 of Russia's territory, 1/4 of Russia's population nd half of its industry was taken away. the german population felt as though their pride was taken away and they were humiliated
-no conscription
-no Luftwaffe, no tanks
-100,00 soldiers only allowed in the army
-£6.6 billion in reparations must be paid ( when John Maynard Keynes heard this figure, he stormed out of the committee) this figure was decided upon in april of 1921
-Germany was only allowed 6 pre-dreadnaught ships
-all oversea colonies were given up and given to the the victors as mandates
-the Rhineland would be a demilitarized zone
-the Germans felt as if this treaty was unfair because they were hoping that they'd get a fair treaty which was based on Wilson's 14 points, they called it a diktat ( a dictated peace), they had no say in it at all
-Germany lost the land which it had gained from Russia in the treaty of Brest-Litovsk and the land became independent states (Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia)
- land was lost to recreate Poland. land such as: west Prussia, Posen and parts of upper Silesia. this did not only separate east Prussia from the rest of Germany but it also separated millions of German speakers.
- Germany was forbidden to unite with Austria (Anschluss) this further separated German speaking people
* all of these were why people were angry and what helped Hitler to get into power not even 15 years later.
( in the end Germany lost 10% of its land,12.5%of its population, 16% of its coal fields and half of its iron and steel industry)
