Introduced the techniques of "yellow journalism" (a type of journalism that presents little or no legitimate well researched news) to the newspapers he acquired in the 1880's. He became a leading figure in the Democratic Party and was elected congressman from New york. He crusaded against bug business and helped keep the Statue of Liberty in New York.
