Frida stopped her bedrest around the late 1927. She started to socialized with her schoolmate who were in university around this time. She joined the Mexican Communist Party and was introduced to political activists and artists. Through one of the party's events she met Diego Rivera a successful artist.
She had met Diego Rivera briefly when he was painting a mural for her secondary school she attended. When they met again through the party they began a romantic relationship. Frida would show Diego her drawings and ask him if he thinks she had the talent to be an artist. He was very impressed by her art.
