(Term 3) The New Deal was meant to be a relief program for the citizens during the Great Depression. It provided direct government assistance, involving public work projects and financial reforms.

1. People were able to make it through this time because of the financial aid given by the New Deal. Even though it was harmful in the long run, the New Deal helped many people in need during its time.

2. On the downside, the New Deal made high government control and power look like more of a good thing when it really isn't. Many people today still see the New Deal as a great success and try to mimic it in different ways.

3. The New Deal did a lot of harm to the U.S. economy. Many believe that FDR's New Deal ended the Great Depression, but it was actually Capitalism that ended it. This proved (but many don't see it) that capitalism is more effective than socialism in economic crises such as the Great Depression. This proof alone is a very important truth to take from this event.
