1 jan 539 ano antes da era comum - Persians defeat the Neo-Babylonian Empire

Descrição:

THE CYRUS CYLINDER
The Cyrus Cylinder is a clay cylinder which includes a Babylonian account of the conquest of Babylon by Cyrus in 539 BCE. The text is in Akkadian cuneiform script, not in Persian, and describes Cyrus's restoration of statues to various Babylonian temples. These religious statues, the cylinder says, had been removed by Nabonidus, the previous king of Babylon. The cylinder also relates Cyrus's entry into Babylon, and his being welcomed by the Babylonian people. The inscription on the Cyrus Cylinder is very similar to other declaration made by new kings of the time. (from module)

The Cyrus Cylinder was rediscovered in Babylon in modern Iraq in 1879 during a British Museum excavation (from module)
