24 nov 1640 ano - Puritanism (1640)

Descrição:

Of all religions during this time, Puritanism was perhaps the most important, at least to the fate of England. In doctrine, Puritanism was essentially Calvinism that was adopted by the English, who saw the ultimate authority in the Bible and tried to reign in the flamboyant Catholic practices and who thought the English Anglican church was too much like the Roman Catholic church. This religion, prescribed to by Oliver Cromwell and other notable English Revolutionaries, was a leading force in the English Civil War. Puritanism is more important than other newer Protestant religious sects, such as Quakerism, because it had a substantial influence on the political life of England at this point, which other sects lacked.
