Noam Chomsky is most noted for developing the theory of transformational generative grammar. This happened throughout the years that he was a fellow at Harvard, 1951-1955 (Scholz, 2011). Transformational generative grammar is a system of language analysis that recognizes the relationship among the various elements of a sentence and among the possible sentences of a language and uses processes or rules to express these relationships (Scholz, 2011). Chomsky published a book on this topic in 1965, titled Aspects of the Theory of Syntax. He is often referred to as the father of modern linguistics (Chomsky, n.d.).
