1 jan 1964 ano - In Honour of James Powell...
Descrição:
Riots about race spread throughout Manhattan neighborhoods of Harlem and Bed-Stuy after Irish American NYPD lieutenant, Thomas Gilligan, shot and killed the African American teenager, James Powell (age 15). At Bed-Stuy, these riots often resulted in destruction and looting of money in the neighborhood businesses, many of which were Jewish-owned. Fires spread to Bed-Stuy two days after Powell's death, where about 4,000 rioters ransacked multiple of the stores local to that area and pelted the police and firefighters with bottles and bricks.
