1 jan 1911 ano - The nuclear model.
Descrição:
In 1911, Ernest Rutherford was working at McGill University in Montreal and he designed an experiment to test J.J. Thomson and H.Nagaoka's theories. He used a type of radiation called alpha particles and aimed it at a sheet of gold foil. He based his predictions on Thomson's theory so he thought that all of the particles would pass straight through the foil. Although a very small amount of particles bounced off of the gold foil and he was amazed. To explain this experiment he came up with a new model called the nuclear model. Here were some of the discoveries added:
An atom has a tiny, dense, positive core called the nucleus (which deflected the alpha particles and contains protons).
The nucleus is surrounded mostly by empty space, containing rapidly moving negative electrons(through which the alpha particles passed unhindered)
After this discovery, everything about science stayed how it is, making small changes along the way and developing science slowly, as time goes. It's crazy to see where the history of matter came from and where it is now. I can't wait to see the changes it'll have in the future.
