1 jan 1750 ano - Isolating Oxygen.
Descrição:
In the late 1700s, Joseph Priestley was the first person to isolate oxygen. Although, he didn't know it was an element. Antoine Lavoisier was later experimenting with Priestley's oxygen and discovered that it was in fact an element. He also concluded that air had to be a mixture of two gases, one of them being oxygen.
Henry Cavendish experimented with metal and acid. He created a flammable gas that was lighter than air. He did not know at the time but he had just created hydrogen. He discovered that if he mixed this gas (hydrogen) with some of Priestley's oxygen he would create water. Now scholars knew that water was in fact not an element which made the four-element model not true anymore. So at this time, Robert Boyle's theory was right, the air was a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen.
