This is one of the most famous battles for many reasons. It is the first battle that the Allies fought on Japanese soil, and it is also has one of the biggest death tolls. This battle lasted for 36 days, and around 44,844 people died (18,844 Japanese soldiers (suicide or from fighting) and 26,000 Americans). The winner of the battle were the United States.
