17 maio 1954 ano - Brown v. Board of Education
Descrição:
Brown v. Board was a Supreme Court that case was the culmination of various cases from Kansas to South Carolina to Washington D.C. Brown v. Board was a result of the segregation of public schools based on race, and African-Americans argued that the segregation violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The plaintiffs were denied in the lower courts based on Plessy v. Ferguson.
The court had ruled that the separate but equal for educational facilities is inherently unequal. In turn, this violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. While the court's ruling had little effect in truly successfully integrating schools, the decision set a precedent for school districts to follow.
