Experimenters had Ss blindfolded and then placed into a circle while wearing headphones. The Ss were asked to shout and clap--both alone and in a group. They found that even when the Ss couldn't hear the rest of the group, they were only 2/3's as loud when shouting in a group as they were when they were alone.
