The new Poor Law was an amendment for the Old Poor Laws. This new amendment was meant to reduce the cost of looking after the poor. They wanted a system that could be the same all over the country. Under the new Poor Law, parishes were grouped into unions and each union had to build a workhouse if they did not already have one. This amendment is supposed to help and support the defendant in England. Again this is also the foundation of the UK’s welfare system and this brings England close to a more socially equal society.
