1 jan 1676 ano - 5. Bacon's Rebellion

Descrição:

*Once these Indentured Servants had managed to buy their freedom, they were still left without much money or land.* Because of this, they would often look westward, expanding into Native American territory. This greatly angered the Native population. William Berkeley, Governor of Virginia demanded that this westward expansion stop. However, Nathaniel Bacon, an aspiring politician, decided to lead an army of people and attack the Natives. Berkeley declared Bacon's acts to be a rebellion against the government, and in response, Bacon burned down Jamestown. However, the rebellion did not last long, as Bacon would unexpectedly die of dysentery. However, this rebellion would mark the beginning of the end of Indentured Servitude's popularity amongst the Chesapeake Colonies
