1 jan 1926 ano - Erwin Schrodinger

Descrição:

In 1926, Erwin Schrodinger used mathematical equations to determine the probability of finding an electron in a location (ABCTE, 2007). Rather than outlining the path of electrons explicitly, his model merely predicted the position of electrons (ABCTE, 2007).

This is often visualised with electron clouds surrounding a nucleus; where these clouds are most dense, electrons are more likely to be found (Bernstein, 2020).

He theorised that electrons travel in waves and described their motions using a wave equation that became known as the Schrodinger equation (Bernstein, 2020). The solutions to this equation do not provide actual locations or paths of electrons, but rather probabilities of finding them in certain locations (Bernstein, J, 2020).

Thus, Schrodinger claimed that electrons have no definite location at a set time, but are more likely to be found in some locations than others (ABCTE, 2020).

Schrodinger's contribution emphasised that the workings of the atom are arcane, and that the quantum world differs in many aspects from the world humans see every day.
