A number of European and American newspapers, such as The Guardian in the United Kingdom, Süddeutsche Zeitung in Germany and The Globe and Mail in Canada, published open letters from Hong Kong people in their online editions, requesting the Hong Kong government to withdraw the legislative amendments, release the protesters and set up an independent commission of inquiry, and implore people in various countries to reflect the situation to their local governments and bring Hong Kong issues to the G20 Summit.
