Yang Guang, spokeman of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council of China, held a press conference to urge all sectors of the Hong Kong community to oppose and boycott violent acts, firmly uphold the rule of law, support the police's strict enforcement of the law and the Hong Kong Government's efforts to punish lawbreakers, and resolve political disputes as soon as possible. Yang said the central government had been closely monitoring the violent demonstrations related to thelegislative amendments, and supported, respected and understood the Hong Kong government's temporary suspension of the legislative amendments.
