The No Child Left Behind Act, which reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, authorizes several federal education programs that are administered by the states. Under this law, states are required to test students in reading and math grades 3-8. Furthermore, NCLB requires each state to establish state standards and state testing that meet federal requirements. The main pillar of this act stands on the focus of student achievement. The No Child Left Behind Act strives to close student achievement gap by providing students with fair and equal opportunities in order to obtain high-quality education. This mission rests on four main goals: Accountability, Flexibility, Research-based education and parent options.
