First eclipse over the USA in 99 years.

This may have been what was referred to as the end of the Day of the Gentiles. Daniel 9:24 expressly gave us a 70 year warning to repent, adding that a sign would be given in the 69th year when he says in verse 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week (year): and in the midst of the week (year) he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

This directly references the TRIBULATIONS beginning. So, we can see that an event or sign being a total Eclipse fits into these scriptures in Daniel, and happened in the 69th year after Israel was made a nation.
