(1610-1643): Louis XIII of France was mainly controlled by Cardinal Richelieu throughout his whole time as king but was still known as an absolute monarch. He took power after his father's assassination at a young age. He and Richelieu effected and shaped France until the end of their reign in 1643, then Louis XIV took power.
