In Lamarck's book, he describes Lamarckian evolution. In this form of evolution, he outlines two key laws.
1. Changes in an ecosystem don't directly affect the evolution of an organism. Rather it changes the needs of an organism. These different needs change their behaviour. Thus, those systems that are relied on upon more with different behaviour, develop more. Finally, the systems that aren't used as much with the new behaviour start to recede.
2. These changes are heritable.
