The discovery of the Rosetta Stone was important because is allowed scholars to read Egyptian hieroglyphics. Although it was discovered in 1799, it was first deciphered in 1822. Before the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, there was no real way to begin to translate Egyptian Hieroglyphics.
