Sydney and Melbourne had a fight between which city would be capitol so it was decided that there was going to be a city in between of the two places; Canberra. However it is not really in the middle it is more towards Sydney. Canberra is the A.C.T (Australian Capitol Territory) and was a fully manmade city built from scratch.

This was impactful because it is where the Parliament house; a very important and significant place. Canberra has had many events such as the Petrov Affair, which had a major impact on the 1955 ALP split, the establishment of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in front of Old Parliament House, the dismissal of the Whitlam government and the High Court decision in the Mabo case.
