The term "emocore", short for emotional hardcore, was used in a Thrasher magazine article. This is the earliest printed evidence of the word, though its true origins are unknown. However, the word "emo" is first used in New Musical Express magazine in 1995. Bands hated being described as emo or emocore, and many took it as an insult.
