Queen Victoria died in Kensington Palace after feeling unwell during early January. Her death marked the end of the Victorian era and her reign of 63 years and seven months, which was longer than that of any of her predecessors. A day of mourning was proclaimed and she was succeeded by her son King Edward VI.
