In 1668 Francesco Redi conducted an experiment to test the theory of spontaneous generation. His experiment tested meat in 3 different types of sealed containers to see if maggots would grow or if they would be drawn towards the meat. He noticed that the jars that were sealed had maggots outside trying to get in while the open jars had maggots on the inside. This proved that maggots didn't just generate but they were attracted to the meat. Francesco was known as the "father of experimental biology." His research was mainly conducted through experimentation.
