Dennis Potter's semi-autobiographical TV documentary filmed in the Forest explored how we make judgments about culture. Potter's honesty in the first half of the programme about how as a young man he had become disaffected with his own working-class culture (only later to realise its vitality, value and resilience) upset many local people and affected his reputation amongst them for years to come.
