1 jan 1920 ano - Isaac & Olivia Holmes

Descrição:

Isaac and Olivia Holmes moved to Quindaro during the late 1920s. They became community builders inspired to help other new settlers. Isaac was a farmer and a skilled stonemason. He presented solid works, constructing foundations and cornerstones for buildings around Kansas City, including Wyandotte County Lake. Olivia was a homemaker and midwife. She helped deliver countless babies before Douglass Hospital relocated to the area. The Holmes would regularly open their home to ministry students of Shaffer Theological School, and A.M.E. pastors passing through, providing food and sometimes even shelter. The Holmes and their eleven children tended farmland near the Quindaro Cemetery. Their food supply not only met the needs of their immediate family but countless neighbors, friends, and others. In July of 2011, the state capital in Topeka, Kansas, flew flags half-mast, and Senator David Haley presented their surviving children a service flag for Isaac's military service during World War I and certificates honoring Isaac & Olivia's generosity and community work.
