The Great Toronto Fire spread throughout downtown Toronto, destroying over 100 buildings and putting at least 5000 people out of work. It was ultimately caused by negligence of safety regulations and procedures. The total losses were up to $10 million. This fire illustrated the importance of following safety regulations and implementing a high pressure water system.
