On the evening of September 5, 1945, a man named Igor Gouzenko burst into an Ottawa newsroom to announce his proof that there was a Soviet spy ring in Canada. No one believed him until his house was broken into by Soviet agents. Since then, he and his family were offered full protection by Canada, and he wore a hood over his head in public at all times, because of his fear that remaining Soviet spies would kill him.
