The second and catalyst prior to the uprising were the restrictions Peròn put in place on religion that caused an uprising. In 1955 under further social changes, the Religious sector was strongly attacked with the education of it being banned. Protests were banned, and in May 1955, the government had a referendum on the separation of church and state. An authoritarian measure taken symbolized a change in the intention of Peròn. Also, the church was alienated with the setup of the Perònist Union of students who competed with catholic youth groups. Finally, for the Feast of Corpus Christi, Catholic ministers led a march on Congress to reproach the anti-clerical legislation. There was a major revolt against the Peròn, where planes bombed the Plaza de Mayo, 12 churches were destroyed, and a priest was killed. Peròn attempted to reconcile and ended the Perònist Revolution. Leading him to lose even more support.
