The Cultural Revolution
When the Great Leap Forward failed, people weren’t sure if Mao should lead the Communist Party anymore.
So, he launched the Cultural Revolution. The goal of which was to get rid of China’s old customs, habits, and thoughts and replace them with a new socialist culture.
Young students became known as the Red Guards and went around China destroying everything from the ‘old way’.
Many people were murdered who refused to fallow the teachings of Mao.
The Cultural Revolution and the murders because it caused China to be in chaos. So in 1968, Mao took over and disbanded the Red Guards.
