5 jan 1968 ano - Dubcek
Descrição:
Dubcek was made the new leader of the Czechoslovakian communist party. He introduced a policy of "socialism with a human face". This meant he wanted: less censorship, more freedom of speech (this would allow people to CRITICISE THE GOVERNMENT) and expression, less action of the secret police, improving the economy by creating trade unions and trading with the west. However, he did not ask to leave the Warsaw pact as he did not want to repeat the actions of Hungary in 1956.
This period became know as "THE PRAGUE SPRING" because new ideas were springing up as there was much less censorship. It was also mentioned that a new political party might be set up to rival the communists. This was veering far from the harsh control the USSR wanted.
