Originally The Standard Oil Trust, The Standard Oil Company was formed once John D Rockefeller bought out all his competitors to form a bigger company. The Standard Oil Company affected drastically the economy of the United States. The reason was because Rockefeller owned every major oil company which allowed him to inflate oil prices in turn affecting the US economy.
