4 set 476 ano - Rise of Flavius Odoacer 4 September 476 CE

Descrição:

On 4 September 476, Flavius Odoacer, takes throne as King of Italy, having disposed of Romulus Augustulus, the previous king. He was the first barbarian (non-Latin/non-Roman) King of Italy. Odoacer steered Rome through famine, won battles against invaders, and enlarged their land through military conquest. Despite being overshadowed by Theodoric the Great (his successor)’s reign, Odoacer’s accomplishments were greatly appreciated by the people of Rome. The biggest changes lasted just until Theodoric the Great took over Odoacer’s reign; however, the survival of Italy and the Roman people is owed greatly to Odoacer’s reign. This event was part of the most chaotic part of Roman history. An example of this could be the lack of long-term leadership, and the constant contention and uncertainty of the Roman people.
