1 fev 1803 ano - Lewis and Clark (Kaw Point)

Descrição:

Lewis and Clark – arrived in 1803 as part of a mission to explore the Louisiana Purchase. The team spent several days at p.d. Kaw Point which is now on the National Register of Historic Landmarks. Wyandotte County itself is at the point of convergence between the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. Close ties had been developed with the local tribes by the French resulting in many native brides and mixed blood children. Kansa and Osage Natives were prevalent in the area when Lewis and Clark arrived.
-
A Historic Period site where the Kansas river empties into the Missouri river was the Lewis and Clark expedition campsite in June. The mates surveyed the lands on both sides of the river, passing the future site of Quindaro on their way west. They are the first Americans to travel through Wyandotte County and leave records.
