As citizens of both the FRD and GDR celebrate atop the wall, GDR troops were readied to re-take the territory. However, commanders ultimately left troops stationed in their barracks because events were mainly non-threatening.

Eventually, citizens of the GDR and FRD began taking hammers to the Berlin Wall for souvenirs and to ease border crossing strains.

At 2pm on 12 November, 1989 official orders to shoot anyone caught crossing the Berlin Wall are rescinded permanently. Although the Berlin Wall is officially collapsed- citizens have only begun to dismantle the wall; the official deconstruction would occur some two weeks later.
