On the 7th of November, the first Melbourne Cup was held in Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne. 4000 people gathered in Flemington Racecourse to watch a horse race not knowing that it would become one of the most celebrated sporting events. 57 race horses were to take part in the race but only 17 started. The winner was Sydney horse Archer.
