Vietcong forces attached a US military base at Pleiku, South Vietnam on February 1965 and killed eight Americans. Johnson retaliated by ordering the first American bombing of North Vietnam. This bombing was code named Operation Rolling Thunder. The bombing continued almost nonstop for three years.
