By 1930, Primo was forced to leave office. The king was heavily associated with Primo and in 1931 was forced to abdicate. On January 1930, the dictator asked the military leaders if he still had their support. Their lukewarm responses, and his recognition that the kind no longer backed him, persuaded him to resign two days later.
