When the German President Paul von Hindenburg died, Adolf Hitler became the dictator of Germany under the title of Fuhrer. The German army gave its new commander-in-chief an oath of loyalty, and the last elements of the democratic government of Germany were demolished to make way for Hitler’s Third Reich. Hitler told the people of Germany that the Third Reich would last for around 1000 years but the Nazi’s only controlled Germany for more years 11 years until it collapsed.
